A few days ago I posted a photograph of a nest inviting comments as to the species responsible (making a suggestion of White-browed scrubwren). Thank you to those who replied, most usually suggesting red-browed finch, but with some suggestions of yellow-rumped thornbill. I have thus held off responding until putting an eye on the bird. This occurred this morning, while hanging out the washing (first breeding record for this Hills Hoist).
It was a red-browed finch on the outside of the nest with several young still vociferously calling inside. The nest is not as bottle shaped as some authrities suggest which is what led me in other direction.
