Last night at 0.50 h I was woken up by a Barking Owl calling from our neighbour's yard in Ainslie, at least the calls were very close, loud and powerful. The bird may have called for a while before I had woken, but  fully awake I still heard about 10 of the double 'wook wook' barks, then was silence, and no further calls were heard, nor of course any sing of a bird.

After Peter Milburn had earlier reported a Barking Owl from Campbell Park, I have been out there a couple of times and listened to tape recordings that Alastair Smith had brought along and to others found on the web. Any dogs in the neighbourhood which may have given rise to confusion are kept inside overnight and I am familiar with their (daytime) barks, none resemble the owl calls I had heard.
