The question of common names, or any other bird name for that
matter, should be dealt with in the usual way. The COG Management Committee
refers the matter to the Rarities Committee. Their recommendation is
taken up by the Committee and approved. At the moment Christidis and
Boles is the recommended source and so irrespective of what the CSIRO publication
has to say the recommended Christidis and Boles names are what we publish in
CBN. If folks feel strongly enough about a change could they please let
the Management Committee know so that the Committee can decide whether to refer
this to the Rarities Committee.
All I can say is thank goodness I am not on the Rarities
Committee!
