Following the recent discovery of Quail in Gungahlin by Marnix, I have tried a couple of times to find some without any luck. Today I went with reinforcements from Wollongong in the form of Damien Farine.

This was clearly a good move because the first bird we saw was a Little Button Quail. 9 Stubble Quail later (all behaving in the manner described by Marnix) we saw another Little Button Quail at point blank range. A male, it flew about 20m dropping feebly back into the grass. This was of course all a ruse because once back in the grass it obviously sprinted away at lightening speed. In all we saw 21 Stubble Quail and 2 Little Button Quail in an area of about one hectare. After 20 years on the trail of Quail in the ACT this was an unprecedented personal experience.
