I have been contacted by Doug Wells from the Animal Emergency Centre.
A tame, apparently hand-reared Rainbow Lorikeet has been handed in -
it is in sound health. It has a (plastic?) blue leg band with a three
digit number on it - the numbers are white. It is a closed ring, not
the split rings used by people who band wild birds.
Doug would like to return the bird (clearly a pet) to its owner. If
anyone can advise him how to locate the owner from the info on the
band, pls phone Doug direct on 0422 317 529.
Info on differentiating between the bands used by bird breeders and
those placed on wild birds is at

Info on the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme generally is at
http://www.deh.gov.au/biodiversity/science/abbbs/index.html .
Regards - David
