In the last week Kelly's Swamp has started to dry up with large areas of
exposed mud now showing. The crakes and rails seem to have dispersed from
crake alley to these new areas.
Highlights were:
Red-kneed Dotterel (1)
Whistling Kite (1)
Royal Spoonbill (7)
White Ibis (6)
Latham's Snipe (2-3)
Spotless Crake (1) - between C & B hides
Baillon's Crake (1) - between C & B hides
Buff-banded Rail (1) - in open between C & B hides
Spotless Crake (1) - far east of crake alley
Glossy Ibis (2)
Black-winged Stilt (1)
Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo (2)
New Holland Honeyeater (8+) - greatest number I have observed here,
feeding in flowering gums
Cheers
Marnix
