I remember Spotted Pardalotes nesting in a hanging basket at a friends place in Scullin quite a few years back.

Younger Brat burst into the house late today after a sales foray into s-w NSW. She'd stopped off at a friend's place in Gundagai for lunch and a look at the cricket on TV. She was shown a large hanging pot plant under the verandah that a pair of Spotted Pardalotes tunneled into and seem to be breeding successfully, they've been seen bringing food in of late. The hefty pot plant sits in a wire basket lined with tea tree bark.

"And last year," Gushing Brat continued, "the spotted pardies tunneled into their compost heap but, after a week, their cat dug it up. And the cat's called Spotty!"

"They should have called the mongrel Garfield," I growled as I shoved Opaque Brat aside and watched the umpire draw the stumps at the Gabba, and the Englishmen walk off looking like someone had drawn their teeth. Y'know, sometimes, watchin' cricket is as good as watchin' birds.
