I spent the weekend at my father's and brother's gardens that were part of the Walcha Garden Festival. A family of frogmouths (two adults and two young) were on low eucalypt boughs near the entry to my brother's garden all weekend - a great bonus for the 1,000 plus folk who passed through (buses from Taree, Coffs Harbour, Armidale, Port Macquarie, Tamworth etc, etc , plus dozens and dozens of 4x4s and cars).
Now I'm home and a wheezy and fluffy baby frogmouth and adults (ooh, oooh, oooh . . . ) were easily visible late in the afternoon on low branches in a E. nicholii (where I had seen a pair of adults for a full day a few weeks ago), and are now audible in our big E. fastigata - I will look for a nest, but it's a huge tree. . .
cheers
Barbara
