Following John Layton's report of Collared Sparrowhawk in Holt I thought that I would report that I have made similar observations in neighboring Higgins and indeed in Holt as well . This species is very much part of the local bird scene. I have seen display flight involving a male and a female over Holt several times and single birds of both genders appear on our block in Higgins occasionally. As John describes they are cryptic, often perching next to busy walkways and near buildings. I have a hunch that this is part of their ambush strategy.
