On the way back from a great weekend with other COG members at Nangar National Park (thanks heaps to Margaret and Charles), we stopped at Conimbla Nat Park so that Michael could meander around a bit to check for birds. Being an inveterate reader I had time to read the only non-birding book around - an Australian Motoring Guide.  From there comes this handy hint - which really seems to work:

To clean off insect marks and residue from your vehicle, including windscreen, first wash the spot in milk. The milk starts to digest the protein in the insect making it easier to wash off.

(I used a splash of evaporated milk on a blue chux-cloth, then washed with clear water).

cheers, Janette
