In today's Canberra Times the answer to 38 down (fledgling raptor) is eaglet. And for 32 across (blackbird) it is ossel or ousel, sometimes written as ouzel. 
In crossword puzzles, the clue 'blackbird' can also result in:
ani (or ano), crow, daw, jackdaw, merl, merle, raven, redwing, rook, shanghai, slave, starling, vocalist.
 
There - that's enough words for anybody!
