I have just read Mark Whittaker's article on the Grey-headed Lapwing in the Weekend Australian colour supplement. I think it's a very good piece, but I think that Mark missed one reason why this 'twitch' has become so popular. It's simply that this is a large, unmistakeable bird that has stayed in a confined area for a long time. I only went to see it on the third weekend, being reasonably confident it would still be there, and I would be able to find it quickly. From memory of the twitching scene in the UK I seem to remember that most twitches were inconveniently small birds which tended not to stay around very long. -- John Leonard Canberra Australia www.jleonard.net =============================== www.birding-aus.org birding-aus.blogspot.comTo unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message: unsubscribe (in the body of the message, with no Subject line) to: =============================== |
