Hello Stuart,
Best spot I know of in fact the only one is the Kialoa Rest
Area.....misleading name, but it is the first rest area on your right going
North on the Princes Hwy,past the Durras NORTH turn off...not readily
apparent from the road but if you scout around there is a HIGH level part of
the rest area...thats where they are....I used a taped call in mid August,
but amazingly when I did hear them they were calling with a sound just like
the Sooty Owls falling bomb,if you are deadly serious try Birding
Australia...this is great spot for Owls within a 5 mile radius I have seen
all the local Owls except the Barn Owl....if you are going down the
Clyde, why not turn off at Nelligen on the River Road, comes out at East Lynne
close to the Rest area and you could stop at Shallow Crossing....I have
found Brou Lake just North of Narooma the best spot for birds also there is
free camping care of Forestry without the stifling access restriction
National Parks have imposed on the Vast areas they control....good luck
Stuart...Terry Gourlay.
