To those not on birding-aus, to let you know the bird was still there on Wed
5th July
Hello everyone on BA
We left Canberra on Tuesday at 4.20 pm (after fulfilling our last
commitment which couldn't be cancelled at short notice) and drove to Dubbo
where we spent the night. Off again at 5.30 am and arrived in Burren
Junction at 9.00 am. Easy to find the bird as a group from far and wide
already had it in their scopes.
We spent some time there watching the bird and exchanging birding stories
with the others before we adjourned to the local servo. Here we filled
the vehicle, had the mandatory b/e roll and headed off home, arriving at
8.pm - a 1500 km round trip. Well worth the trip and quite a lark really
to rush off to see a rarity. No wonder people think birders are 'a weird
mob'.
I must say the people at the servo were very interested in the
illustrations I had of the bird and I also left them with a sheaf of
print-outs from this line that I had taken with us. There was an article
in the Wee-Waa paper which I brought home with me and also there is a
similar article in the Narrabri paper but it was not available in Burren
Jun.
Certainly, an unplanned excursion and very enjoyable, too.
