Well I guess one nebulosity deserves another. On 7
June whilst I was travelling in a bus from the city to Woden, passing by Capital
Hill, I saw a flying raptor heading towards me twisting and turning, trying to
avoid being harassed by Currawongs. It looked distinctly reddish. It had very
obvious pale sections in mid under wing. More importantly I thought it had a
long tail. It looked a lot like a Square-tailed Kite. However the
observation was probably about two to three seconds before it disappeared from
view (and I didn't feel like insisting that the bus stop on the middle of
Adelaide Avenue). No way I could convince myself or the RP that it was other
than a pale young Little Eagle and I had miss-cued on its dimensions. Not
suggesting any connection with your bird, just an excuse to tell a story. Maybe
your bird is moulting its middle tail feathers?
