I have been sick, but to maintain sanity I have visited some easy-walking
birding sites.
Bot gardens-Thur- no olive whistler. But in rainforest gully 2 brown gerygones.
2 yellow robins gave mobbing alarm calls, I thought aimed at me. But eventually
found a boobook sleeping under a tree fern. Many birds were attracted by the
alarm calls including 16 red wattlebirds and numerous thornbills and
scrubwrens. Many Homo Birdiensis also in the gardens.
Aranda bushland- Saturday- Decided to visit again. 1 brown headed honeyeater, 4
and possibly 5 speckled warblers in one group. Birds everywhere including
strangely a MFF with >40 superb fairy wrens, I dont recall seeing them
'flocking' in such numbers before and many were feeding above 2m. 4-5 white
eared honeyeaters. 1 yellow thornbill. Other thornbills and honeyeaters. 1
yellow robin. 5 redbrows. Many other species.
Jerrabomberra wetlands- Sat- Kellys was almost full with water- 97 grey teal,
15 black ducks, 14 masked lapwings, a few other species. 1 brown goshawk. 2
spotless crakes seen in reed bed SE of Bittern hide, I quickly walked to crake
alley and saw another 1 spotless crake, so I am pretty sure 3 in total. 9
kookaburras in 2 family groups.
Shepherds lookout- Sunday. Entrance- A large MFF including 1 redbrow. 1 yellow
thornbill. 5 white eared honeyeaters, other honeyeaters, flock of 50 redrumps,
dozens of rosellas, Also 2 kookaburras were present. Birds everywhere. At
lookout- 1 wedgie, flocks of ~ 15-20 red wattlebirds flying fast and low
between bushes heading east. 4 groups.
