Chris

The rainbow lorikeets have been around for years now, I cant remember but at least 6 years, when I was in africa, I will check my records at home. They probably were escapees from an aviary near hawker primary, which is still their base and they appear to be fed there. I have also seen them in banksias in winter. I have seen or heard 3 birds every day in hawker for the past 3 years. Over the last couple of months only heard 2. They seem to do loops from their base into weetangera, scullin and higgins, and probably bred in farmland West of Pinnacle NP for the past 2 years, although couldn’t confirm as on private land. I suspect there are now different groups spread out from the originals, as I have seen 5 together a couple of times near Hawker shops and their behaviour is very different. Once I saw a large flock of maybe 9 birds ‘passing through’ flying quite high on a mission, which may be unrelated to the above birds.
