There was an article about a possible sighting of a
Pink-headed Duck in the September 2005 issue of World Birdwatch. A BirdLife
International team conducting surveys in northern Myanmar in late 2004 had
flight views of a single bird that may have been this species. See http://www.surfbirds.com/phorum/read.php?f=63&i=5407&t=5407
for a copy of BirdLife's statement on the sighting.
Given the recent furore over the alleged Ivory-billed Woodpecker reports in the
US, their caution is probably wise!
cheers
