Dear Duckhead,

In answer to your somewhat challenging quiz here is my desperate attempt at answering same:

  1. I assume is a juvenile (or at least youngish) Hardhead – if not it is at least some sort of Aythya.
  2. The closest picture in any of my books is the Hooded Merganser, found in North America.
  3. A probable female or juvenile Blue-billed Duck.
  4. Red-breasted Merganser, male, a species of the Northern Hemisphere
  5. A Grey teal, but knowing you it is probably some obscure beast from southern Tierra del Fuego or some such remote locality.
  6. The presumed extinct Pink-headed Duck of India and places east.
  7. A female Australasian Shoveler.
  8. A male Mallard.

Do I keep my museum collectors licence or have I cooked my goose?

Mark
