Hello,
The 1st issue of the SMH was published on 18th April 1831.  I took the opportunity to read a reprint of the 1st edition from cover to cover (all of 4 pages).  I quote

"A neat aviary is building by the Surveyor General, Major Mitchell, at his new residence on the Woolloomoolloo Hill, for the purpose of domesticating a considerable number of native birds.  This is the first erection of the kind in the Colony."

I wonder if he had any Pink Cockies in his collection?  My preliminary research indicates that the Major Mitchell's Cockatoo was written up in Proc. Comm. Zool. Soc. London, 1831, p. 61.

Mitchell arrived in the Colony in 1827 and his first exploration/expedition was in 1831(the year that he built the aviary)
