With 190 Hoary-headed Grebes available,
Marnix has an enviable opportunity to engage in a little sexual
differentiation. According to HANZAB the female, apart from a shorter
bill, may have a somewhat different eye. In males the ‘outer iridal
ring’ is golden-yellow rather than ivory, and the iris generally may be ‘yellower’,
although this, as they say, ‘needs investigation’.
