Hi All,
On my way down to the coast,at about 5PM on Thursday 16th
March, while on Macks Reef Road, where it crosses the Yass River,as I pulled
up the hill in my car I saw a large raptor coming towards me,it was larger
than a Brown Falcon as it was directly in front of my windscreen,at about 15
metres it fanned its tail and pulled up and over the top of me....the
impression gained was of a large raptor, very dark on top and blotchy brown
below...the distinctive thing was the tail,it was long and very clearly
barred its full length..oddly it had two white tail feathers centrally....
after eliminating all the usual suspects,I believe it was a Spotted
Harrier,on leaving the car the bird was seen a fair way off moving North
along the river,no white rump was evident, nor brown marks on the wing.well
there you are,not a good enough sighting on its own,but if any one else saw
a large raptor in the vicinity we could have more evidence...If this is old
hat forgive my computor,Terry Gourlay.
