<sigh>

I visited the lagoons on Sunday afternoon around 5pm to look for the
Grey Goshawk, and to show my sister (visiting from Melbourne) the
Blue-billed Ducks (which I assumed would be somewhat interesting to
a non-birdo?)

No sign of the Grey Goshawk or Spotted Harrier, but one Brown Goshawk
was flushed from the copse just east of pond 4 by the young cattle
giving good, if brief, views of the banding on the chest; and another
was soaring over Kelly Swamp, and being mobbed by a pair of kestrels
and some magpies.

We also visited the Australian National Gallery for lunch (delicious),
and to visit the Constable and Crescent Moon exhibitions.

Constable's landscapes are pleasant enough, but his birds leave a lot
to be desired! Some may have been swallows or oystercatchers? (black
with a white rump), but the rest were little more than the clichéd
"^^" variety. ("Rookes" according to one description.)

The Crescent Moon exhibition had some interesting bird motifs (including
a gold bird figurine) with exquisite detailed work, but I suspect much
of the significance beyond the visual appeal was lost on me for language
reasons. Both exhibitions are well worth a look.
