This evening I sneaked out when my computer wasn't watching to visit
Kelly's just pre-sunset. I must confess to, very atypically, disagreeing
with Marnix re his assessment of Kelly's. It's still full of water but
it is entirely covered with Azolla, giving a most misleading impression.
I had the advantage of having dabbling ducks scattered all over it,
swimming (and sometimes wading!). Mud is certainly appearing and I don't
doubt M will be right soon enough; hopefully some scattering waders
might visit before that happens. There is still water to the head of
Crake Alley, so we've got a little while yet.
CA seems like the place to be. At least 2 and probably 3 Spotless Crakes
seen, though sporadic calls suggested a few more than that, feeding
with 3 snipe. A brief appearance by the/a Lewin's Rail.
cheers
Ian
