We have recently returned from a two week visit to Kerala, southern India,
which included a 6-day birding trip with a company called Kalypso
Adventures that we found on the Web. It was marvellous, just the two of us
for two days then two Brits, a guide named Eldhose and a driver, Binu.
We visited Munnar in the mountains, Periyar, and Thattekkad. Cool in
mountains, humid on coastal plain. We saw a total of around 160 birds
almost all new to us, many of them endemic to Kerala. Eldhose was an
superb birder. Each evening we went through the birds we had seen and
marked them in our field guide, "Birds of Southern India". The last night
we spent on a houseboat (A/C bedroom) on the back-waters of Kochi., just
the two of us plus captain, steward and mechanic.
The trip cost US$1025 for the two of us, all inclusive (except tips).
Accommodation and food were Indian but very good.
In Singapore we visited the Jurong Bird Park and the Botanical Gardens,
both very well worth visiting.
