The CSIRO's Double Helix Science Club questionnaire (Canberra Times, Times2, February 27, p.6) asks, "How many species of eagle are found in Australia?"  They give the answer, "Two, the white-bellied sea eagle and the wedge-tailed eagle."
 
So what happened to the Little Eagle? Has it dropped off the perch?
 
If you want to really delve into it, there has been at least one confirmed sighting of a fourth species, Gurney's eagle, sighted at Boigu Island (Torres Strait) in February, 1987.
