Cheers

How odd that Michael didn't get to see this  spectacle. Has anybody else tried? It really was an impressive event. Whilst the  timing suggests it as a pre-roosting gathering, I'm pretty sure the birds were  feeding as the flight was all very erratic, no formation flying. Also the birds  were at altitudes from only a couple centimetres above water level (sometimes  drinking from the lake) to very high, only just visible as dots in the sky. On  that basis (and the poor light) it was hard to work out what ratio of the  two species it was. I thought the strong wind was relevant in possibly  blowing insects towards the eastern edge of the lake.

I had 3 White-throated Needletails over my house  this week. This is the second week for my GBS this year. No-one else has  mentioned them on this list (that I have noticed). Is anyone else seeing them  locally so far this year?

Philip
