I spent Sunday afternoon in the woodland around Hall. A huge amount of breeding activity and plants in flower.

Birds seen in various stages of breeding/nesting included White-throated Treecreeper, Leaden Flycatcher, Spotted Pardalote, Striated Thornbills and Kestrel. Other birds included Dollarbirds, Grey Currawong, Speckled Warbler, Yellow Thornbill, Olive-backed Oriole, both Gerygones, Rufous Songlark, Rufous Whistler, and Dusky Woodswallow. I could also hear Little Ravens up near One Tree Hill.

Really interesting was a pair of Wedge-tailed Eagles along Brooklands Rd. I stopped the car some metres from where they sat in a field. One bird flew off being chased by Ravens and Magpies, and while I watched the other bird tried, unsuccessfully, to fly up with a recently dead lamb in its talons. An amazing sight as it leaped airborne briefly. It eventually left the prey behind.

Other interesting fauna included a Shingleback, an Eastern Blue-tongue and a Pobblebonk.

To flora and the following were in flower: Pink Caladenia, Bulbine Lilies, Billy Buttons, Daphne Heath, both forms of Sundew (white and pink flowers carpeted some areas, growing very high in places), Peas, mistletoe (no honeyeaters I could see) and even some eucalypts (attracting a few Yellow-faced Honeyeaters).

Cheers
Marnix
