As another resident of Chapman, I can confirm Jack's observations entirely.

I've even had several visits by the elusive Major Mitchell to my place and have managed to snap two photos of it the other week - just got the photos back yesterday. One shot is of its back and the other shows the bird looking back over its shoulder. Not the best of photos but you can see its colouring.

Depending on what's the best method of distribution, I'm happy to either attach them to an e-mail (size dependent?) or have them posted on the COG site. Happy to receive advice.

Subject: [canberrabirds] Corellas galore

After being very rarely seen in the first half of 2005, corellas have been increasingly observed again in Chapman, particularly over the past couple of weeks.  Generally they are flying over from the Cotter to Mt Taylor (or vice versa), but latterly they have also been seen on wires or feeding on the ground with related species.  Most are little corellas, but on Saturday there was one long-billed corella on the wires with two of the former.  Earlier in the week 8 little corellas were feeding in my GBS site with sulphur-crested cockatoos, galahs and a single Major Mitchell's cockatoo.  This bird has been regularly sighted in the area for about 18 months now, often making the same trek from the Cotter to Mt Taylor (or vice versa, including in company with the corellas ).

Lots of yellow-faced honeyeaters also around at the moment, flying through the trees or sometimes coming down very low to feed in grevilleas etc.
