On Saturday despite some inclement weather I headed south to Rendezvous Creek and Yankee Hat. Along Rendezvous Creek I was hoping to spot an Olive Whistler but unfortunately dipped. However in the flowering Grevillea lanigera(?) and Hakea bushes (not flowering) were many Eastern Spinebills and New Holland Honeyeaters. Along the creek I added Yellow-faced Honeyeater, White-naped Honeyeater and White-eared Honeyeater too. Since August when Pied Currawongs where loud and obvious around my work hundreds were now moving through the valley on their return to the ranges. A Wedge-tailed Eagle was perched on the hill above the creek and several Flame Robins were in the grassland. At Yankee Hat I recorded 3 Diamond Firetails, 2 separate families of Brown Treecreepers, a Southern Whiteface, Fuscous Honeyeaters and Brown-headed Honeyeaters, Little Ravens and over 50 Dusky Woodswallows. The last species was present in large numbers in the Naas Valley (with Tree Martins) and at Glendale too. A Superb Lyrebird was still calling at Gudgenby.
