... someone's gotta do it.  See attached photo of Bahamas squalor encountered while at symposium on Censuses. 
 
Due to convenient flight times and prices I was able to fit in a full Saturday's birding with Carolyn Wardle and agree with The Independent newspaper that her tours are excellent.  We observed 44 species in a the day (summer is low season, the Christmas bird count is usually over 100) of which 19 were lifers.  If anyone else is likely to visit New Providence Island I can pass on contact details off line.
