Thanks Rick. My wife and I found them (just 2) this afternoon. They're very
close to the cycle path - right on it in fact. The tree is in fact just
beside the start of the green plastic along the bottom of the fence. I've
attached a photo - very poor, for which I apologise. The light was pretty
bad (5.10 pm) and I didn't want to use the flash for fear of upsetting them.
I've lightened it a bit with photoshop, but it's still pretty crap. Will
have to go back in the proper daylight.

Subject: Frogmouths at ANU
Yesterday Angus McIntyre reported three 'owl like birds' he had seen
for several days. I checked them out at 11.20 today (16/8/05) and
found two Tawny Frogmouths on a dead branch near the trunk 3-4 metres
up a pale gum. The tree is on the east side of the bike path (on the
east side of the creek, just near where some green plastic has been
tacked along the bottom of a wire fence further back. It is the
stretch of the bike path south of Ward Rd, not far from a
construction site. The two birds I saw looked mature, but in very low
res photos Angus took with his phone one of the three blobs seems to
have a much shorter tail.
