Robins at Kelly's Swamp

There were at least 3 female Flame Robins
(no males) in the paddocks adjacent to the Kelly's Swamp car park last
Sunday (26 June).
The first I have seen within Canberra
this winter.

Jack asked about Robins.
 
I went (with Maria) to Googong dam yesterday  morning,
in heavy fog but there were lots of birds about in the area above the  boat
ramp car park (access down to the lake was blocked off). In particular,
a  flock of at least 40 Southern Whiteface, many Diamond Firetails
- hard to know  but about ten, also several Hooded Robins these were
all within about 2 hectares  and accompanied by Thornbills, Pardalotes
and the other usuals. We found a  female Hooded Robin lying on the
middle of the road, rather dazed and it was  injured to the extent
of bleeding over one eye. I picked it up, after being  in the
warm car for a while it sort of perked up. After about 30 minutes I  placed
it on a tree, near where I picked it up. She stayed there for at least
 the next hour, not flying away even when approached until we left
and then I  don't know. I did find one of the rangers and showed her
and she said she would  check on it later on in the day. I'm not too
confident of its chances but they  are much improved from lying on
the road.
 
As for other Robins, surprisingly no sign of  Scarlet
or Flame Robins. A pair of Musk Ducks close to the dam  wall.
 
At Kelly's swamp late on  Saturday, an easy look
at 2 Freckled Ducks from the Cygnus hide, along with  about 30 Pink-eared
Ducks. 
 
All this with my great new binoculars!
