After all the recent rain I headed out on Saturday for a half day drive around the lagoons and wetlands to the north of the ACT.

My first stop Roses Lagoon, or Rowes Lagoon as the signs say now, was completely dry still. Not much bird activity.
Then off to Wet Lagoon Reserve. On the way passing Collector Reserve (with a new sign? - stating it was habitat for Latham's Snipe with native grassland, woodland and riparian communities.). Along Wollogorang Rd I stopped to watch a Southern Whiteface.

At Wet Lagoon the situation seemed better. In fact it poured heavily while I was there. The central ground was filled with water and I couldnt walk far in as it soon turned to mud with puddles of water among the sedges. Highlights here were a single Swamp Harrier and several Flame Robins. Little Ravens were everywhere, with over 150 at Wet Lagoon alone..

Then off to Lake George, but the northern end. Driving down to Ondyong Point revealed little apart from a Wedge-tailed Eagle soaring above Mt Baby and a Grey Currawong. No water at this end. A large male Wallaroo crossed the trail here too.

The drive home was a circuitous route via Currawang, Tarago and Bungendore. No waders that i could see at The Morass (a few sorry looking puddles) but Lake Bathurst had quite a bit of water in it, albeit to far for my binoculars to pick up any water birds. The highlight near Woodlawn a Pacific Heron at Crisps Creek, which was flooded in places. And I counted at least 6 Purple Swamphens at the Tarago Recreation Area along the Mulwaree River.

The last stop at the Bungendore Sewage Ponds produced Australasian Shoveler, Hardhead and a Black Swan.

Cheers
