I had been planning to revisit the Burrinjuck-Wee Jasper area soon and Peter Mahoney's recent email prompted me to go this weekend.

4 Diamond Firetails along Fairlight Road were a good start on Saturday. Flame Robins were everywhere along the roads. A Restless Flycatcher at Cookmundoon and Brown Treecreepers near the tip. And a dozen Wallaroos on the slopes of the Wee Jasper Valley. Fuscous and White-plumed Honeyeaters at Cavan Station. And Wedge-tailed Eagles were a constant sighting above the hills.

The real highlight was the short hike from the Micalong Creek picnic area to the Micalong Creek Falls. After the recent rain the cascades were overloaded with a torrent of water making for a great photo opportunity. A drive further down Nottingham Rd produced a Superb Lyrebird which ran across the track and a Wonga Pigeon.

The fishing village of Burrinjuck was a birding hotspot with Crescent, New Holland, White-eared and White-naped Honeyeaters and Silvereyes being drawn to several flowering eucalypts, while Red-browed Finches, Flame Robins and wrens foraged below. Burrinjuck Dam was only at 25% capacity and it showed! A few Great Cormorants and Pelicans were all I saw.

Along Black Range Road near a property called 'Ferndale(?)' we saw a lone Emu. Does anyone know of any Emu Farms around here?
The drive home along Burrinjuck Road yesterday produced 5 Zebra Finches in roadside grass.

Cheers
