I guess this photo would rate as "outside the Canberra Region". 
 
Black-crowned night-herons  - and I DO hope the Hyphen Police will be happy with that - seem to be common denizens of NY City Parks.  This one was in Prospect Park, Brooklyn standing in a dysfunctional fountain. 
 
Later it moved to a water-lily name tag in an ornamental pond.  In the past it would have generated astonishing revenue for purveyors of film: in modern times merely clogged up a few flash cards.
