G'day all,
The band does not look like anything like a normal "scientific" type of
band. The Canberra itself is self explanatory but the RPC I suggest is
Racing Pigeon Club, the 2003 is the year and the 257 is probably a
sequential number. What it is doing on a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo I
don't know, although there have been instances where people have put
bands from dead birds onto pet live ones in the belief that it makes
them "more valuable".
I will pass the message on to the Australian Bird and Bat Banding
Schemes but would not expect them to have any more information than I
have given above.
Having said all that, thanks to Graham for reporting the band. As I have
said before anything to do with banded birds please feel free to contact
me. I am not sure how much longer I will be at my CSIRO email address
but put it on the Canberra chatline and one of the senior C banders will
follow it through.
Thanks,
Mark
