Wedgie sighted in Holder last Monday, gliding from west to east across
Stretton Drive. As I watched its progress I spotted another one much higher
up circling above Weston.
Another sighting of Black Shouldered Kites at the green re-cycling area
Mugga Lane - a pair this time.
Gang Gangs have not been common at the coast in my limited experience. But
last weekend there were at least 7 and probably 9 at the South Durras Resort
(grand new name for what used to be the Beagle Bay Caravan Park). Included
was a female hanging upside down to feed a begging young one. Is this a
usual technique of Gang Gangs in feeding their young?
Other features amongst my usual Durras list were:
an incredible number (hundreds, perhaps thousands?) of Silvereyes calling -
clearly the dominant noise on a clear still morning in the forest.
large numbers of Yellow Faced Honeyeaters.
an abundance of Eastern Spinebills, New Holland and Lewin's Honeyeaters.
50-60 Black Swans on the lake, plus Striated Heron and Great Egret
Whistling Kite, White headed Pigeon and Olive backed Oriole
Spotlight patrol produced about 20 large bats (flying foxes?) but not the
Owls or Gliders I had been hoping for.
Cheers
