A little while ago someone mentioned seeing a red faced/headed parrot but otherwise green, about the size of a rainbow lorikeet, and wanted to know what it is, I saw no COG responses. Possible answers may include Swift parrot- red face, slight yellow and blue tinge around red. otherwise mainly green, red shoulders. Flies very fast. Very rare although seen recently Little lorikeet- Red face,
otherwise green, a lot smaller than a rainbow lorikeet (smaller than budgie)
with a kreeking call. Not seen for a few months in possible escapees Peach faced or fishers lovebirds- red/peach face, otherwise green, round birds and with short tail, loud screeching call, smaller than a rainbow lorikeet but bigger than a budgie and with a short tail. Common in captivity Plum headed parrot- Male has
Musk lorikeet- red stripe from
forehead to ears. Otherwise mainly green.
Not indigenous to Other possibilities Eastern rosella- larger than lorikeet, but has yellow, and other colours King parrot- Larger than a rosella, (much larger than a lorikeet) male has red head, otherwise mainly green with a bright green wing stripe. Gives a strident call, plink or clink Do you have any more info on the bird??
