About  3 klms up stream from New Norfolk where I live in the Sth of big Tassie, a flock of app 30 C.Egrets over wintered on a dairy farm last year.
 
I've just nipped up to see the farmer if they are still around. He reckons that they disappear during the summer and return as winter is arriving. I have seen flocks of them (30-40) them north at Devonport and south at Huon Valley in June and December, so it would appear that some stay here all year round. I'll keep a look out to see if they return.
