Monday 28th March-

Gossan Hill-  5 common bronzewings, 2 yellow tailed black cockies. 10 double barred finches. A large MFF was in flowering cassinia (cauliflower bush)(sickly sweet smell) 3 speckled warblers (M,F and a juvenile begging), >10 striated thornbills. 3 varied sittellas, both pardalotes, Eastern spinebill, No scrubwrens. A golden whistler in a cherry ballart caught and ate 3 caterpillars within 2 minutes. Rufous whistler. Other usuals. Also saw 1 fork tailed swift UVT (too fast- but white 'rump' and no white throat, pointed tail). 1 grey currawong heard. 2 yellow faced honeyeaters. A large proportion of the ridge was burnt 2 years ago (?) and recovering well are Dianella revoluta and indigo plants (I.australis), also Lomandra, Pultenea,  and other peas and acacias. 3 species of ants were feeding on lerp exudate on stringybark leaves.

 

Aranda Bushland- East: Applebox Gully. Flowering cassinia was finishing. Saw juvenile butcherbird (brown) being mobbed by many birds including >10 striated thornbills, brown and buff rump thornbills, scrubwrens, eastern spinebill heard. 2 yf honeyeaters. Also saw 2 grey currawongs, golden and rufous whistlers.
