Nothing I might contribute is intended to curtail, and I
certainly would not wish to curtail this thoughtful discussion, where so
much of the ore body is yet to be mined.
However, I sense a dichotomy creeping in, dividing those who
feel that the relevant purpose of language (which is what this is about) is to
capture (ie to record, sort, rationalise) from those who feel that its
purpose is to communicate (ie to transfer information, perhaps by a simplified
code, by a biological pidgin or Swahili if necessary).
