Julienne,
I have not heard any raptors (other than owls of
course) calling at night. Many diurnal birds call at night. Why would you think
(if that is what you are suggesting) that it is raptors
"giving the shrill short call".

As for all the WtE reports. Aren't we lucky having
such a bird in our capital city. I do think though that the work and findings of
Esteban Fuentes, who gave a superb (and vibrant) talk to COG last year or year
before, is very relevant. He explained how well the species is doing in our
region. I have had some observations of one, two or three from my GBS (work)
site in Fyshwick in the last year.
