Hi all
Over the past five days, during early mornings and around dusk, we've
been invaded by crowds of highly vocal Pied Currawongs. There are lots of
immature birds as well as adults. This morning, I watched a mature currawong
land on the carport roof. It carried a tiny stick (c.75mm long & 10mm thick)
in its bill. It turned its head sideways and bashed the end of the stick against
the metal roof three or four times. It repeated the process three times before
abandoning the stick and flying away.
Would it have mistook the stick for a prey item? Or, perhaps, it was being
playful?
