G’day Harvey et al,

The beastie in the photograph is almost certainly a Painted Button-quail chick. While the ANWC does not have any specimens of Painted Button-quail chicks we do have one 6 day old and one 3 day old specimens of aviary bred Black-breasted Button-quail and the skins are extremely similar to that in the photo, especially our 6 day old specimen. The painting in HANZAB of the B-b B-q chick is very poor and that of the Painted B-q is not much better, however it should be enough to satisfy most people that the photo is of a Painted Button-quail.

Hope this help solve the problem,

Cheers,

Mark
