The undoubted highlight for this new year so far has been the restless flycatcher that has been coming in regularly each evening (from about 7.30 pm) to my neighbour's garden for a bit of a hawk for insects round the bird feeder and then, I suspect, settling down to roost (I heard it at 6.10 am this morning too).  It has been surprisingly tame, tonight it approached to within 1 metre of me, showing off a lovely lemon-yellow wash in the white of the lower throat/upper breast.

The lowlight has been hearing a spotted turtle dove calling a couple of times, with on one occasion seeing it fly through with its typical stiff bent wing action.
