Rhonda and I travelled to Jindabyne last Sunday intending to
spend the week. However, the cold southerly wind eventually convinced us
that birding and fishing were not to be and we returned to Canberra yesterday. We did, however,
venture to Thredbo on Monday in a quest for pink robins and olive whistlers.
We managed to find several pink robins but the whistlers were nowhere to be
seen. Other interesting sightings were rufous and grey fantails, lots of
yellow-faced honeyeaters and two pilotbirds. At 2 pm it started to snow
so we gave up any thought of further birding and headed back to
Jindabyne. Incidentally the maximum temperature at Thredbo for Tuesday
and Wednesday was 5 degrees, which contributed to our decision to return to
Canberra.
