Hello and Happy New Year!

I will be heading North from Cessnock tomorrow and will have some time available for bird watching along the way. Due to recent fire activity, I assume the New England Highway would be a better option than Thunderbolt's Way. I'm close to Werakata NationalPark, but the combination of dirt roads, a rental car and heavy rain tonight probably rules that out.  I had a look at the HBOC Cessnock brochures, but they both seem to be for areas south of Cessnock. Is anything in Maitland currently worth a diversion? Given current drought conditions, the areas listed in the Murrurundi brochure may be too dry.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions!
Sharon
