I birded in Darwin and Katherine, and a few places in between, last Easter. I had a hire car for Darwin and the trip to and from Katherine and was easily able to find my way around - and of course had help from some of the birding-aus community on where to look for birds.

The best part of the trip was when I hired a guide for a full day. Mick Jerram was amazing - he found me nearly all my target species and we had a fabulous day out. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mick to anyone, whether a beginning birder or a serious twitcher with specific targets. If I get back to the NT I'll make sure I travel when I can do another day with Mick. There are plenty of good guides in the NT, and probably a few on birding-aus, but I'd recommend Micl Jerram for the sort of trip you're planning, or for at least a day or two to get yourself accustomed to the region.

Would appreciate any suggestions re the best way to bird in Kakadu for a single person without a 4 wheel drive. Perhaps a birding tour? Or the possibility of joinng a small group from a bird club who may be visiting Kakadu?
