Hi there Bill,
Whatever you do, don't miss the Arid Lands Garden! They very
sensibly open at 6.00 am, so if you stop in Port A. overnight, you can
see it while the light is good and birds are active. Don't know what
it's like at present after so much drought, but I photo'd Wedgebill,
White-browed Babblers, and lots of honeyeaters. Fascinating native bees
in the Eremophilas. Stumpytail lizards strolling about. Plants great
too. They have a cafe so you could have breakfast. Plus lots more I
would have to look up in my diary.
We were there in 2016, after a trip to Lake Eyre for non-birding
purposes (celebrating 50th Anniversary of Donald Campbell's Land Speed
Record, for which Brian's Car Club provided the timing team.) No birds
at Lake Eyre at all.
I didn't think very much of the Port A. Caravan Park, very dry and
dusty, but we were only there for one night.
